Frequently asked questions--introductory courses online

What equipment and software do I need to take a course over the Internet?
Hardware and software requirements vary by individual course. Most online courses are offered in WebCT (Web Course Tools). For additional information, see WebCT frequently asked questions.

Are these courses difficult?
The courses are rigorous college courses. Take a college course as part of your normal course load, not in addition to your high school course load.

What will a course cost?
• If you are an Iowa student and enroll through the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act (PSEOA), your high school pays the tuition. Iowa State loans the textbooks to your school. If you fail to complete and receive credit for the course, you are responsible for all costs directly related to the course and have to reimburse your school district.
• If you pay for a course on your own, undergraduate tuition at ISU is $212/credit (summer 2006-spring 2007). Tuition for a three-credit course is $636.

Who is eligible for Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act?
• You're in the upper half of your class.
• You’re an Iowa student, in the eleventh or twelfth grade or you're in ninth or tenth grade, identified as gifted and talented according to the school district’s criteria and procedures.
