Designed for professionals working in industry and government, the degree ensures an advanced knowledge of seed science, technology and basic business and problem-solving skills. The computer-based program begins in 2007. It emphasizes decision-making with application to practical and technical issues in all aspects of the seed business.
Most students in this program will be employed full time in a seed related position. The program has been designed for the convenience of working adults-those too busy with jobs, or too far away, to enroll in a traditional graduate school. Students use a computer to access course work, communicate with instructors, and submit assignments. The course of study is rigorous and requires a great deal of self discipline, but it is convenient.
The curriculum consists of 15 courses and a three or four-credit creative component. The program of 36 credits is a non-thesis degree. The admission requirements are: an equivalent of a US four year baccalaureate degree in either agriculture or business; graduation in the top quarter of your class; and GRE (Q) 570 or better, GRE (V) 500 or better or GMAT 570 or better. Proof of prior acceptance to another accredited graduate program may be accepted in place of the preceding . Botany or other plant related four year degrees in biology may also be accepted. If English is not your native language, you must score at least 230 on the TOEFL examination (electronic or computer based).
Each course is offered within the normal campus schedule of fall, spring, and summer semester. Most of the course content will be delivered via WebCT (an online learning platform) and on CDs. Content is accessed through your web browser and you can choose which approach works best for based on Internet access or other factors. You will also interact with professors and other students using WebCT. You can work at your convenience, but most courses have assignments due on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Most students spend an average of 10 hours per week on each course.
The program schedule will have either one or more typically two courses per semester. Students are strongly encouraged to remain together in a group through the entire program so you can share your experiences with others in the group.
Applications received before April 15, 2008 will be given
priority for admission to the 2008-2009 Master of Science in Seed Technology
and Business program.
