Iowa
State University has a long-standing international reputation
for education and research in electric power engineering.
The electrical and computer engineering department designed
the twelve-credit graduate certificate for power engineering
specialists in government, private sector, and academia.
Upon completion of the program, power engineering specialists
will be proficient in theory and modeling plus have the
tools necessary to perform engineering tasks related to
planning and operating electric power generation, transmission,
and distribution systems, plus knowledge of related public
policy.
The certificate program was begun in 2002.
The
Program of Study
Candidates for the program must have a baccalaureate degree
in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
The graduate certificate is four courses, a total of twelve
credits. Two courses, Steady State Analysis (E E 553) and
Power Systems Dynamics (E E 554) are required. Select from
the following courses to complete the certificate: Advanced
Energy Distribution Systems (E E 555), Power Electronic
Systems (E E 556), or Advanced Topics in Electrical Power
System Engineering (E E 653). E E 653 may be taken and applied
more than once to the certificate. It is possible to complete
