The
Master of School Mathematics (MSM) program is designed for
current secondary mathematics teachers. The degree program
is built on three objectives:
---Enhance your knowledge of geometry, calculus, statistics,
and discrete mathematics.
---Promote effective strategies for creating a student-centered
classroom emphasizing problem solving.
---Use computing technology in learning and teaching mathematics.
The
course work includes geometry, topics in discrete optimization,
intermediate calculus, a seminar on current literature in
mathematics education, a statistics course, electives, and
a creative component, totaling 33 semester credits. The
creative component may be taken during a summer, with most
of the actual research and writing done during the preceding
year.
A
Master of School Mathematics fulfills the 'master's degree
in an area of endorsements' requirement listed under the
certification rules for a professional teacher's certificate.
