Prepare
for a proactive role in addressing and responding to personal,
professional, and societal problems and challenges in agriculture
and food systems. Position yourself for emerging opportunities
within or outside your current employment. Individuals enroll
in the program for a variety of reasons from career advancement,
to teacher certification renewal, to professional development,
to personal interests.
This
broad-based agricultural degree includes courses in animal
sciences, plant sciences, agricultural economics, agricultural
education, research design or statistics, and sociology.
The
objectives of the program are:
- to
provide baccalaureate graduates who are professionally
involved in the agricultural and food system access to
an advanced professional degree through distance learning,
- to
provide advanced training in the science, technology,
and business of the agriculture and food system and
- to
promote interaction between graduate agriculture faculty
and agricultural and food system professionals and to
better assess the current issues and research needs.
The
core 13 credits emphasize leadership development, technological
change, use of statistics, economic issues, and sustainability
issues. Select another 15 credits in consultation with your
graduate committee to meet your individual interests. The
capstone of the program is a creative component project
of four credits. The degree is 32 total credits.
The
nonthesis off-campus program began in 1979. Up to 10 credits
of approved transfer courses may be used. Specialized workshops
and short courses are offered on campus in the summer.
