Program requirements

6 basic English composition

foreign language (may be met by three or more years of high school study in one foreign language)
12 arts and humanities
2 verbal communication

math, statistics or computer science
8 natural sciences
9 social sciences from at least two different disciplines
  Students who have earned an associate of arts (AA) degree from an Iowa community college since May 1992 have met the general education requirements (except perhaps for foreign language).
General education requirements
36 Distribution areas
A minimum of 12 credits in three of the five areas:
Humanities
Communications and arts
Natural sciences and mathematics
Social sciences
Professional fields
  At least 24 upper-level credits are required in the three distribution areas - with a minimum of six upper-level credits in each of the areas. Upper-level courses at ISU are numbered 300 or above.
