Family
Economics
Course: Family Financial Planning (FFP) 525, section XG
Basic concepts and theories in family economics. A small
portion of the course will look at families and economics
in other countries. An overview of the economic situation
of families in the United States, the national economy in
relation to families will cover the cost of raising children,
the Consumer Expenditure Survey, inflation and the CPI.
Topics related to household consumption, labor force participation,
income distribution and inequality, poverty, disruptions
in the family life cycle, human capital, household prodution,
distribution of labor and time use in the household. Econonomics
of aging, the grants economy, discrepancies in the American
Dream and family economic well-being. While major emphasis
will be on analysis of the U.S. economy and the trends that
affect families, the course will also examine the actions
of households in the economy and the theories that have
been developed to explain that behavior. The course concludes
with a look at current issues affecting public policy.

Course: Family
Financial Planning (FFP) 530, section XG
Issues and concepts related to the overall financial planning
process, and establishing client-planner relationships.
Services provided, documentation required and client/planner
responsibilities are explored. Competencies related to gathering
of client data, determining goals and expectations, and
assessing the client's financial status by analyzing and
evaluating data are developed. Emerging issues and the role
of ethics in financial planning are an integral part of
the course.
