Weed Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Course: Agronomy (Agron) 517, section XW

Weed evolution and biodiversity for exploitation of disturbed and managed habitats. Selection and adaptation of weeds in agronecosystems: soil weed seed banks, population shifts, and crop-weed interactions. The genetic basis of colonizing plant species. The evolution of weedy plant life histories, trade-offs and important traits for invasion and colonization.
Prerequisites: Agron 317 (Principles of Weed Science), Botany 484 (Plant Ecology)
Recommended minimum computer requirements: PC with Windows or Virtual PC, 200 MHz processor, video, audio, and graphics capable, 64 Mb RAM, CD-ROM, and Internet accessibility, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer

Current Issues in Agronomy
Course: Agronomy (Agron) 592, section XC

Study and discussion of topics of current interest to agriculturalists and those who depend on agriculture. While Agron 591 deals with agronomics at the farm and landscape level, Agron 592 seeks to address issues on a broader scale, including off-farm agricultural impacts.
Prerequisites: restricted to students enrolled in MS in Agronomy distance program, Agron 501 (Crop Growth and Development), 503 (Climate and Crop Growth), 511 (Crop Improvement), 512 (Soil-Plant Environment), 513 (Quantitative Methods for Agronomy), 514 (Integrated Pest Management)
