Many
Iowa State online courses are built in WebCT, a software
program with course tools for the convenience and unique
learning needs of individual students. When you access WebCT,
the course software includes communication tools, assessments,
and course materials. The communication tools include chat
rooms, whiteboards, discussions, and internal course e-mail.
Assessments can be by self-tests, surveys, and quizzes.
Course materials may include presentations, syllabus, and
links to other sites. You need an ISU personal Network-ID
to access a course in WebCT software. Explore
the Iowa State eLearner computer based learning Web site
to learn more.
Streaming
media is a technology that delivers multimedia content
rapidly and efficiently via the Internet. You see and hear
audio and video files without lengthy download times. Small
packets of information are sent or "streamed"
over the Internet. To receive streaming media, you need
software such as RealOne Player or QuikTime which can be
downloaded from the Web. (The free downloads are often several
layers deep on these sites.) Each software has minimum computer
requirements to successfully receive streaming media. The
quality of the picture you see may be affected by the speed
of your Internet connection.
Companct
Disk (CD) courses may be accessed from your computer's
compact disc drive.
Digital
Versatile Disk (DVD) courses may be accessed from your
computer's DVD drive or a DVD player connected to your television.
